No consistent closeout process.
One PM sends a Google Doc, another sends a Notion page, one sends nothing. Your clients get a different experience every time, and so do your support inboxes.

A website handover is more than a folder of links. Give the client the final deliverables, operating instructions, selected access and a clear record of what was accepted.

The client sees the handover context, not the owner’s internal workspace.
The product story changes with the audience, but the closeout record stays clear.

Without a signed handover and a clear support boundary, clients treat your team as free ongoing support because nothing was ever agreed in writing.

A useful handover explains the work in the order the client needs it.
List the launched site, agreed deliverables, known limitations and any outstanding items. Link the final design files, brand assets, repositories and other resources the client is entitled to receive.
Document the CMS, hosting, domain registrar, DNS, analytics and email accounts where relevant. State who owns billing and which users have administrative access; avoid leaving personal accounts as accidental long-term owners.
Provide short instructions or a walkthrough for the tasks the client will actually perform: editing content, publishing, reviewing forms, checking analytics and requesting future work.
Separate included bug fixes and questions from new pages, copy, SEO or third-party outages. Ask the client to review the handover and acknowledge what they received, then retain the closeout record and archive.
